Armed with Bialik-bred sensibilities, tastes, expectations, and attack-plans, Batalion relays how she braved years of the British aristocratic art world, the culturally-pernickety comedy industry, and the sauna at her local gym, set in the heart of one of Britain’s largest Muslim neighbourhoods. The Only Jew in the Village is a 40-minute stand-up and storytelling show about Jewish identity, adulthood, difference, and how Batalion came to understand Ben Gurion’s famous remark that anyone crazy enough to call themselves a Jew, must be. The themes running through the show include: coming of age in an age that can be rather unbecoming, anti-Semitism, risk-taking, the 'survival gene' passed on between generations of Jewish women, and home and the achingly ambivalent experience of it.
